Nigeria runs elections across 774 local government areas and more than 176,000 polling units. Once a result leaves the polling unit, the citizen who queued to vote has historically had no way to verify what happened to it. Trust in the process has suffered as a direct result β not because Nigerians lack interest in their democracy, but because the information needed to check it has been out of reach.
Watch Nigeria Elections exists to close that gap. We are an independent, non-partisan civic monitoring platform. We do not run candidates, endorse parties, or campaign for any side in any election. Our work is to place trained monitors at polling units, record what happens there as it happens, and publish that record alongside the official figures so the two can be compared by anyone β journalists, observers, civil society, and ordinary voters.
What follows is the method behind every figure published on this platform, and the editorial standards we apply to our own reporting.
Every field monitor is recruited, identity-checked and trained before deployment, then assigned to one specific polling unit. Nothing published on this platform comes from an unverified account.
Monitors photograph the official result sheet at the unit and record accredited-voter and party tallies on the spot. The record is timestamped at the polling unit, before any figure is collated or announced elsewhere.
Field entries are checked against the published INEC IReV figure for the same unit. Where the two disagree, the difference is flagged for review instead of being published as fact.
When a number is wrong, we say so and correct it. Corrections are noted on the article rather than quietly deleted, so readers can see what changed and when.
Our reporting covers Nigerian elections, governance, security, the economy and civic life, alongside guides that explain the electoral process in plain language β how to register, how to check your polling unit, and how results are collated. Reporting and commentary are labelled separately, and our full editorial and corrections policy is published openly.
Two prepared campaign banners for recruiting agents. Download, post and share β party neutral by design.
